As seen on Instagram, TikTok, ads, and documentaries, the renowned Navagio (Shipwreck) Beach in Zakynthos is more spectacular up close. The turquoise water and white sand highlight the old shipwreck and the surrounding cliffs make it a truly surreal sight.
You have probably also seen Myrtos Beach in Kefalonia, one of the 30 best beaches in the world! Lying between 2 mountains, this bay is covered in white pebbles and surrounded by huge limestones and electric blue waters. Sunsets are also spectacular since the sun sets right in front of you giving majestic orange and pink colors.
Crete is blessed since it has literally everything. In Chania, you’ll find Balos Beach and Elafonisi Beach, both part of the Natura 2000 protected areas network. Depending on the tide, they can be an island or connected to the mainland and they both feature pink sand which are residues of crushed shells.
Located on Halkidiki’s first “leg” (Peninsula of Kassandra), you’ll find Possidi Cape (Faros) beach, the only beach in Greece that changes… shape every year. This long stretch of sand is shaped by the winter currents and is never the same twice. The historic lighthouse at the beginning of the sandbar and the crystal clear waters surrounding it contribute to a spectacular experience.
Certainly, there are countless more unique and idyllic beaches to be found in Greece so consider this just a taster as we have a few more to highlight for you to give you some inspiration. Stay tuned for Part 2 of the best Greek beaches!
